Born in 1971, Bernd Kalis began his career in 1987 by training as a banker with Bayerische Vereinsbank in Munich, a predecessor of the current UniCredit Bank AG. After completing his training in 1989, he worked for a short period in the Organisation department; he returned to Vereinsbank following 12 months' basic military service.

Until 1994, he worked as a relationship manager, while training as a banking specialist (Chamber of Industry and Commerce) in Berlin. From 1994 to 1999, as a securities specialist, he advised affluent investment clients and managed the securities and investment departments at 20 branches of the merged Hypo- und Vereinsbank AG.

In 2000, he joined the Product Management Securities support functions and subsequently oversaw the launch of the first structured securities advisory tool in 2001. In 2002, he took over as Head of Product Management Securities and, as a result of restructuring, was also temporarily responsible for the deposit business and currently also for business with closed-end funds. In 2014, he oversaw the launch of the successful consultancy and price model, HVB DepotGlobal, in Private Clients Bank.

In addition to day-to-day product management, he provides private clients banking support, particularly with regard to regulatory topics like product information sheets, MiFID-2, PRIIPs and other topics like the risk classification of securities and the management of recommendation lists.

Bernd Kalis is single, lives in Munich and is a keen aviation photographer, among other hobbies.
