Wrap-up: Deutsche Börse ETF-Forum 2016More than 200 participants discuss current trends and new developments

The ETF Forum has developed into an important sector event for ETF issuers and investors. On 26 September, it was organised by Deutsche Börse in Frankfurt for the ninth consecutive time.

More than 200 institutional investors and ETF issuers, economists and fund managers came together to discuss current trends and the latest developments. The event was hosted by the German news anchor Corinna Wohlfeil.

„The most recent forecasts continue to expect a strong growth development for the ETF sector, with an expected doubling of assets managed in passive index funds to over US$7 trillion globally within the next five years. In Europe, ETF assets are expected to more than triple until 2021, from their current level of US$500 billion to US$1.6 trillion. This is an impressive development for a segment launched just 16 years ago in Europe,” says Michael Krogmann, Head of of Department Cash Market Sales & Partner Markets at Deutsche Börse.

This year, the event focused on the following topics:

• Macroeconomic outlook 2017: the Brexit and its consequences
• Markets and asset classes under scrutiny: the optimal asset allocation with ETFs
• The future of investment consulting in the digital age
• Trends and innovations: sustainability and factor ETFs
• The ecosystem surrounding ETFs: derivatives, indices and exchange trading

Through an interactive communication tool, attendants had the possibility to directly participate in the panelists’ discussions. This interaction between the audience and speakers confirms both the importance of the event and the strong interest for this product group among investors.
